Canmore Museum (Centennial Museum Society of Canmore)
A great museum builds community. It creates shared experiences and preserves collective memory. It invites us to explore our sense of place and identity. It invites people to participate, create, and discover new things and make unexpected connections.
From October 2020 to April 2021, the Canmore Museum embarked on becoming the museum of the future … today. With the Canmore Museum Reimagined Strategy, the Canmore Museum is re-building from the inside out.
Reimagining the Camore Museum = reimagining its relationship with the Canmore community.
The Canmore Museum began its planning with a Discovery process, examining its work culture and decision-making practices. Understanding these internal dynamics laid the foundation for opening dialogue with Canmore residents about their vision for the museum. This deeper understanding led to the Canmore Museum Reimagined Strategy, forming a new social contract with the community and setting a firm foundation for the museum moving forward together with the community.
-
The Canmore Museum Re-Imagined Strategy focused on:
Community Engagement: Foster inclusive policies and practices, ensuring all visitors and partners have equal opportunities for participation.
Cultural Preservation: Incorporate diverse voices, including Indigenous perspectives, into exhibits and programs to enrich Canmore's cultural heritage.
Innovative Visitor Experience: Create a dynamic, story-centric visitor experience that encourages visitor engagement and contribution.
Organizational Growth: Expand staff, volunteers, and financial resources to ensure long-term sustainability and growth.
Technological Integration: Enhance the visitor experience and efficiency with digital tools, app updates, and interactive exhibits.
Strategic Partnerships: Build strong partnerships with local organizations, government, and Indigenous communities to support the museum’s mission.
